Thomas Hawkins (Tom Hawkins)

Thomas Edward Hawkins was born on 10 – 4– 48 and died peacefully on 10–23–25 on Bainbridge Island. Thomas was born in Springfield, Ohio and moved to the Puget Sound area in 1955. Graduating from Ballard high school in Seattle, he joined the US Navy in 1966 and became a Maintenance Crew Chief on an aircraft carrier in 1971. In the Navy he traveled to Hawaii, the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, and Sydney Australia. He also was a teammate on an undefeated football team for his ship, playing other ship’s teams. After he left the Navy, he moved to Bainbridge Island to be close to his family. He attended Olympic College and then went on to graduate from Washington State University with honors. He spent some time as a Victims Advocate after university and other jobs before his love for being close to nature took over and he decided to work doing carpentry, painting and garden maintenance. He volunteered with the Bainbridge Island Parks Department building and maintaining trails around the island and Red Pine Park in Winslow.

His ashes will be scattered on top of Mount Townsend in the Olympics at a future date.
