Kent Deer

Kent Deer

1948-01-01 2012-09-30
Kent Deer was born Jan. 1, 1948 to Dr Glen E. Deer and Keitha V. Deer. He passed away peacefully at home in Edmonds on Sept. 30, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Michael Deer; brother and sister in law Greg and Marilyn Deer; nieces Jenica Cerda and Rebecca Deer, three grandnieces; honorary step-daughter Michelle, and many very dear friends.

Kent was a life-long resident of Ballard and North Seattle. Among his career accomplishments was his time in the real estate field working at McPherson's Realty, owning The Farm Mobile Home Sales, and owning and operating the Black Angus Motor Inn. His great pride was the friendship and love he shared with a wide circle of lifelong childhood friends, classmates from Ballard, co-workers, employees, and companions he gathered and cherished throughout his life. Among the things Kent had a passion for, was taking friends and family out on his Chris Craft Commander, most notably to the Seafair hydroplane races where they attended every one for 38 straight years. Second to that perhaps, was his interest in the music of the band Chicago, whom he saw in live performance numerous times throughout their career. In recent years, he “headed for the desert” to see them perform in Las Vegas at their annual Fan Club Association and would see every show. Listening to Chicago at high volume was a requirement of the boating experience with Kent. Kent traveled to some amazing places in his life. He spoke highly of the trip to Australia and the far East he took with his Aunt and Uncle Ted and Dorothy Miller; and he experienced white water along with close family and friends rafting down the Colorado river, through the Grand Canyon. A boundless capacity for caring, generosity, empathy, and kindness were the greatest attributes Kent brought to the world, and those will be missed by all who knew him.

September 30, 2012  Our classmate and close friend Kent Deer has lost his battle with cancer this afternoon. Though his passing is a great loss to all that knew him we rest assured that he is now beyond his pain and suffering. I firmly believe that Kent Deer will be remembered as the kindest and most generous man and who played an intricate part in all of our class reunions. He entertained many gatherings including Sea Fair Log Boom and Washington Huskies Game Day gatherings on his beautiful boat. There will be a celebration of Kent’s life on this new date of Saturday, November 10th at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 Fourth Ave. N. Edmonds, WA 425-640-1808. It will begin at 1:00 pm so please plan to attend and bring with you your favorite remembrances of this wonderful man.

You were a wonderful friend, at Ballard and for numerous years after. The poker game is waiting for your deal.
