Kent Deer was born Jan. 1, 1948 to Dr Glen E. Deer and Keitha V. Deer. He passed away peacefully at home in Edmonds on Sept. 30, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Michael Deer; brother and sister in law Greg and Marilyn Deer; nieces Jenica Cerda and Rebecca Deer, three grandnieces; honorary step-daughter Michelle, and many very dear friends.

Burlington, Washington, grew up in the Ballard area of Seattle and was a class of '66 Ballard High school graduate. He studied Editorial Journalism at the UW and worked for the Seattle Public Library as well as the Seattle Times, where he worked as an assistant for the "Trouble Shooter" column. Phil was an accomplished musician and music lover. He played over 7 instruments and was well known and appreciated in his community for the music and entertainment he played and shared. One of our classmates and dearest friends, Gary Doerschel, past away in the comforts of his home last night. Though he was able to extend his life on this Earth for a short period of time he was only given 62 years. He leaves behind 8 brothers and sisters, a son and granddaughter and his wife Pam Doerschel. We will miss the presence of his friendship and his terrific sense of humor.
